Introduction
This document will walk you through the notification schedule and management as per HashiCorp guidelines for Major and Minor version upgrades of the HCP Vault clusters.
Upgrades of HCP Vault Clusters Information
Currently, HashiCorp maintains all clusters on the most recent major and minor versions of HCP Vault. Within a major release family, the most recent stable minor version will be automatically maintained for all tiers.
Major versions are automatically maintained for the Development and Starter tiers. By following the steps mentioned in the Manage Major version upgrades document users of the Standard and Plus tiers can:
- Set a maintenance window in which HCP Vault will attempt to upgrade their cluster to the most recent available major version
- Defer upgrade, and opt to upgrade manually up to 30 days from the time of availability of the latest version.
The below table explains the before and after upgrade notifications schedule for the Development, Starter, Standard, and Plus tiers:
Notable points:
- For the Development and Starter tiers, major versions are automatically maintained, so notifications are sent to the Admins only after the upgrade is completed.
- When a new Major Upgrade version is available, email notifications are sent to all the users in an HCP Organization only for Scheduled, and Manual cluster settings.
- When a cluster is set to Manual, and a new upgrade is detected, HCP users will receive a banner notification in the HCP portal that an upgrade is available with an Upgrade Now button.
- When the Major Version Upgrade is completed, email notifications are sent to all the users in an HCP Organization for Automatic, Scheduled, and Manual cluster settings.
- When a specific Vault version approaches its end-of-life on the HCP, existing users will receive a notification to upgrade to a supported version.
